Josef Guggenmos

Josef Guggenmos (1922–2003) was a German author and translator. Born in Irsee in the Allgäu region, he studied German literature, art history and Indology. He later worked as an editor and translator for various publishers. From 1956 onward, he published poetry for children and became one of the leading German-language poets for young readers. His collection »Was denkt die Maus am Donnerstag?« received the 1968 special award of the German Youth Literature Prize. In 1993, Guggenmos received the special German Youth Literature Prize for his complete body of children’s poetry.
