Kirsten Boie

Kirsten Boie (born 1950 in Hamburg) is a German author of children’s and young adult books. She studied German and English, earned a doctorate in literary studies and initially worked as a teacher. After adopting her first child, she left the teaching profession and began writing. Her first book, “Paule ist ein Glücksgriff,” was published in 1985. Her best-known works and series include “Wir Kinder aus dem Möwenweg,” “Der kleine Ritter Trenk,” “Lena,” “Juli” and “King-Kong.” Her approximately 100 books have been translated into numerous languages, and some have been adapted for film and television. Among other honors, Boie received the 2007 Special Prize of the German Youth Literature Prize for her complete works, the 2008 Grand Prize of the German Academy for Children’s and Young Adult Literature, and the Gustav Heinemann Peace Prize and Federal Cross of Merit, First Class, in 2011.
