Ursel Scheffler

Ursel Scheffler (born 1938 in Nuremberg) was a German author of children’s and young adult books. She studied languages and literature, or philology, at the universities of Erlangen and Munich, earning, among other qualifications, a translator’s diploma, a teaching examination and a Magister Artium. She published numerous children’s books from 1975 onward; more than 300 titles appeared under her name, including the series featuring Detective Kugelblitz. Her books were translated into more than 20 languages. Her work received, among other honors, the Golden Schneiderbuch twice. In 2018, she was awarded the Biermann-Ratjen Medal by the Hamburg Senate. She also initiated the reading-promotion project “Büchertürme” (“Book Towers”).
