Cornelia Funke

Cornelia Funke was born in 1958 in Dorsten, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. She studied educational science and illustration in Hamburg and initially worked as a freelance illustrator of children’s books. Because she was not always satisfied with the stories she illustrated, she began writing her own. Her best-known works include the series Ghosthunters and The Wild Chicks, as well as the Inkheart novels. Funke has published more than 50 books, which have appeared in over 40 languages. In 2020, she received the German Youth Literature Award for her complete literary œuvre.
