Arne Rautenberg, born in Kiel in 1967, studied art history, modern German literature and folklore. He is a writer and visual artist. His work focuses chiefly on poetry for adults and children, as well as visual poetry; his poems and stories have appeared in numerous books, anthologies and journals. In 2013 he held the Liliencron Poetry Lectureship, and in 2016 he received the Josef Guggenmos Prize for Children’s Poetry for his collection »unterm bett liegt ein skelett«. He was elected to the German Academy for Language and Literature in 2017. Further distinctions include the Kiel Culture Prize in 2020 and a fellowship at the German Academy Rome Villa Massimo in 2022.
