Sasha Marianna Salzmann is an author of prose and theatre, an essayist and a dramaturg. From 2002 to 2013, Salzmann co-edited the cultural and social magazine freitext and was a house author at Berlin’s Maxim Gorki Theatre and artistic director of Studio Я. Salzmann’s debut novel, Außer sich, was published in 2017, translated into sixteen languages, awarded the Jürgen Ponto Foundation Literature Prize and the Mara-Cassens Prize, and nominated for the German Book Prize. The second novel, Im Menschen muss alles herrlich sein, received the Literaturhäuser Prize and the Hermann Hesse Prize in 2022 and was also nominated for the German Book Prize. Salzmann’s internationally performed plays received several awards, including the Berlin Art Prize, the Ludwig Mülheims Theatre Prize and the Kleist Prize.
