Nicolas Pethes (born 1970) is a German literary and cultural scholar. He was a professor of modern German literature at the University of Cologne. His research focuses on the media history of literature, the relationship between literature and the history of science, cultural theories of memory, discourses on media effects, and popular culture. He has led research projects on medical case histories, periodical literature, and media-critical discourses. His publications include “Medienkritik und Wirkungsästhetik” (2023), “Lesen/Sehen” (2023), and “Vermischte Schriften. Jean Pauls Romananthologie D. Katzenbergers Badereise (1809)” (2021/2022).
