Viktor Yerofeyev was born in Moscow in 1947 and is a Russian writer. He gained international recognition with his 1989 novel *The Moscow Beauty*, which was translated into 27 languages. In 1979, he was expelled from the Writers’ Union of the USSR because of his involvement with the literary anthology *Metropol*, which included texts banned by Soviet censors. After the collapse of the Soviet Union, he reissued the anthology. Yerofeyev was also the editor of an early Russian edition of works by Vladimir Nabokov.
