Stefan Schmitzer, born in Graz in 1979, is an Austrian author, critic and performer. He studied German literature, art history and philosophy in Graz and Vienna. His first poetry collection, “moonlight on clichy,” was published in 2007, followed by works including the novel “wohin die verschwunden ist, um die es ohnehin nicht geht” (2009), “denunziationen. haltlose gedichte” (2015), “boring river notes” (2018) and “okzident express. falsch erinnerte lieder” (2019). His writing has appeared in literary magazines including “manuskripte,” “perspektive” and “schreibkraft.” Schmitzer received, among other distinctions, the City of Graz Literature Promotion Prize (2007), the “manuskripte” magazine advancement award (2008), a Schloss Wiepersdorf travel grant (2013), the Literature Scholarship of the Province of Styria (2014) and the Gisela Scherer Scholarship (2018).
