Norbert Niemann, born in 1961 in Lower Bavaria, studied literature, musicology and history and worked as a freelance writer. His first novel, “Wie man’s nimmt” (1998), received the Klagenfurt Ingeborg Bachmann Prize in 1997. His other publications include “Schule der Gewalt” (2001), “Willkommen neue Träume” (2008) and “Die Einzigen” (2014). He received the Carl Amery Prize in 2015. In 2016, he received the International Music Theatre Award for “Musicophilia,” a stage adaptation of Oliver Sacks’s book “The Man Who Mistook His Wife for a Hat,” about music and the brain.
