Michael Wildenhain, born in Berlin in 1958, is a German author of novels, plays, and books for children and young adults. After studying philosophy and computer science, he became involved in the squatting scene, which also provided material for his early publications, including »zum beispiel k.«, »Prinzenbad«, and »Die kalte Haut der Stadt«. His later novels include »Das Lächeln der Alligatoren« and »Das Singen der Sirenen«. »Das Lächeln der Alligatoren« received the Brandenburg Art Prize and was nominated for the Leipzig Book Fair Prize; »Das Singen der Sirenen« was nominated for the German Book Prize. Wildenhain has received, among other distinctions, the Alfred Döblin Prize and the Ernst Willner Prize, as well as fellowships from the Villa Massimo and the German Literature Fund.
