Sebastian Lybeck was born in Helsinki in 1929 and died in 2020. He initially studied mathematics and chemistry before turning to journalism and working as a journalist, translator, and writer. He first attracted attention as a translator with his translation of Christian Morgenstern’s “Gallows Songs.” In addition to volumes of poetry and children’s books, he wrote the “Latte Igel” books. “Latte Igel and the Waterstone” was published in 1958 and received a special prize associated with the German Youth Book Prize the following year.
