Michael Ende (1929–1995) was a German writer. He attended the Otto Falckenberg School of the Performing Arts and initially worked as a freelance actor in Munich. He became widely known with his first children’s book, *Jim Button and Luke the Engine Driver*, which received the German Youth Literature Prize. His best-known works also include *Momo* and *The Neverending Story*. In addition to books for children and young adults, Ende wrote picture-book texts, books for adults, plays, poetry, and essays. Many of his works were adapted for film, radio, and television.
