Ralf Schnell

Born in Oldenburg in 1943, Ralf Schnell is a German scholar of literature and media studies. He studied at the University of Cologne and the Free University of Berlin. From 1972 to 1987 he taught at the University of Hanover, from 1988 to 1997 at Keio University in Tokyo, and from 1997 to 2006 at the University of Siegen, where he served as rector from 2006 to 2009. His research focuses include the history of German literature, media aesthetics, film theory, and media avant-gardes. His publications include “Dichtung in finsteren Zeiten” (1998), “Medienästhetik” (2000), “Germanistik. Was sie kann, was sie will” (2000), “Geschichte der deutschsprachigen Literatur seit 1945” (2003), and “Deutsche Literatur von der Reformation bis zur Gegenwart” (2011).
