Michael Theobald

Born in 1948, Michael Theobald studied Roman Catholic theology in Bonn, Münster, and Munich. He received his doctorate in Bonn in 1979 and completed his habilitation in Regensburg in 1985. From 1985 to 1989, he was professor of biblical theology at Freie Universität Berlin, followed by a professorship in New Testament at the University of Tübingen, where he taught until 2016 and became emeritus. Theobald served as chair of the Catholic Biblical Association in Stuttgart and was a member of the German National Academy of Sciences Leopoldina. His publications include “Dienen statt Herrschen. Neutestamentliche Grundlegung der Ämter in der Kirche” (2023).
