Kurt Koch

Kurt Koch, born in 1950 in Emmenbrücke in the canton of Lucerne, is a Swiss theologian and cardinal of the Roman Catholic Church. He was Bishop of Basel from 1995 to 2010 and previously taught dogmatic theology and liturgical studies at the Faculty of Theology in Lucerne. From 2007 to 2009, he served as president of the Swiss Bishops’ Conference. In 2010, Pope Benedict XVI appointed him president of the Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian Unity. Koch has published numerous theological books and writings, including Mut des Glaubens (1979) and Eucharistie (2005).
