Samuel Vollenweider

Samuel Vollenweider, born in 1953, is a theologian and New Testament scholar. He earned his doctorate and habilitation in Zurich and was a visiting lecturer in Kyoto and Nishinomiya in 1988–89. From 1989 to 2000 he was Professor of New Testament at the University of Bern, and from 2000 to 2019 Professor of New Testament Studies at the University of Zurich’s Faculty of Theology. His research focused on the history and theology of early Christian literature, antiquity and Christianity, the reception history of the Bible, and the relationship between scholarship and culture. His publications include “Horizonte neutestamentlicher Christologie” (2003) and “Antike und Urchristentum” (2020).
