Born in 1964, Mario Ulbrich worked as a reporter for a major daily newspaper in Saxony, where he covered the search for hidden treasure in the Ore Mountains for more than two decades. He received the German Federal Foundation for the Environment’s journalism prize in 1997, a special award from the Konrad Adenauer Foundation in 1999, and a 2006 award for “Headline of the Year” from Saxony’s state press conference. In 2011, he published the nonfiction book “Rätselhafter Poppenwald,” about the search for the Amber Room in the western Ore Mountains. Under the pseudonyms U. L. Brich and John F. Cooper, he wrote several novels and more than 100 short stories.
