Born in Paderborn in 1948, Gerd Wameling trained as an actor at the Folkwang School in Essen. In 1974, Peter Stein brought him to Berlin’s Schaubühne, whose ensemble he belonged to for almost 20 years. From 1992 onward, Wameling worked as a freelance actor and appeared in numerous theatre, television and film productions. He became widely known for playing state prosecutor Dr. Fried in the television series “Wolffs Revier.” In 1993, he received the Adolf Grimme Award. Wameling also worked as a narrator for radio, publishers and audiobooks; his recordings included, among others, the crime novels by Jean-Luc Bannalec.
