Theodor Storm

Theodor Storm (Hans Theodor Woldsen Storm) was born in Husum in 1817 and died in Hademarschen in 1888. The German writer studied law in Kiel and Berlin and initially worked as a lawyer in Husum. He later held several positions in the Prussian judicial service, including in Potsdam, Heiligenstadt, and Husum. Storm wrote poetry, short fiction, and above all novellas. His work is associated with poetic realism; his best-known works include “Immensee” and “The Rider on the White Horse” (“Der Schimmelreiter”). Storm regarded himself primarily as a poet and considered his poems the source of his prose narratives.
