Martha Grimes is an American crime writer. Born in Pittsburgh, she studied English at the University of Maryland. For many years, she taught creative writing at Johns Hopkins University. She is best known for her novels featuring Inspector Richard Jury and for the series about the twelve-year-old investigator Emma Graham. In 2012, the Mystery Writers of America named her a Grand Master in recognition of her lifetime achievement.
