Friedrich Balke

Friedrich Balke (born 1961) studied philosophy, German studies and education at Ruhr University Bochum. In 2006, he completed his habilitation in philosophy and cultural studies at the University of Potsdam. He was Professor of the History and Theory of Artificial Worlds at Bauhaus-Universität Weimar and Professor of Media Studies at Ruhr University Bochum. His research focuses on the intersections of political theory, literature and media, as well as cultural and intellectual history and the theory and history of documentary forms. His publications include Figuren der Souveränität (2009) and Mimesis und Figura (2016, co-authored).
