Ulrike Draesner, born in Munich in 1962, is a German writer. She studied in Germany and England and published her first volume of poetry, »gedächtnisschleifen«, in 1995. Her work includes novels, poetry, short stories and essays, as well as translations from English and French. Her notable books include »Sieben Sprünge vom Rand der Welt«, »Schwitters« and »Die Verwandelten«. From 2015 to 2017, she taught at the University of Oxford; in 2018, she was appointed professor at the German Institute for Literature Leipzig. She has received numerous awards, including the Joachim Ringelnatz Prize for Poetry (2014), the LiteraTour Nord Prize and the Bavarian Book Prize (2020), and the Grand Prize of the German Literature Fund (2021).
