Ute Schneider

Ute Schneider (born 1960) studied book studies, German literature and sociology. She received her doctorate in 1994 with a study of Friedrich Nicolai’s Allgemeine Deutsche Bibliothek and completed her habilitation in 2001. She was a professor of book studies at the Gutenberg Institute for World Literature and Written Media at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz. Her research focuses on the history of book use from the eighteenth to the twentieth century, the history of the book trade and publishing, and the role of the book in the culture of knowledge. Schneider also served as editor of Imprimatur: Ein Jahrbuch für Bücherfreunde.
