Christof Dipper, born in Stuttgart in 1943, is a German historian. He studied history, Romance studies and political science in Heidelberg, where he received his doctorate in 1972 under Reinhart Koselleck. After completing his habilitation in Trier in 1980 and holding temporary professorships in Stuttgart, Freiburg and Düsseldorf, he was professor of modern and contemporary as well as economic history at the University of Trier from 1987 to 1990. From 1990 to 2008, he taught modern and contemporary history at the Technical University of Darmstadt. His research focuses on Italian history, agrarian and conceptual history, and the history and methodology of the historical discipline and modernity.
