Michael Hagner

Michael Hagner studied medicine and philosophy at the Free University of Berlin. His academic positions included the Neurophysiological Institute of the Free University of Berlin, the Wellcome Institute for the History of Medicine in London, institutes for the history of medicine and science in Lübeck and Göttingen, and the Max Planck Institute for the History of Science in Berlin. He was Professor of Science Studies at ETH Zurich and held visiting professorships in Salzburg, Tel Aviv, Frankfurt am Main, and Cologne. His publications include “Geniale Gehirne. Zur Geschichte der Elitegehirnforschung” (2004) and “Der Geist bei der Arbeit. Historische Untersuchungen zur Hirnforschung” (2006). In 2008, he received the Sigmund Freud Prize for Academic Prose; he was also awarded the Academy Prize of the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences and Humanities.
