Eilert Herms

Eilert Herms (born 1940) is a German Protestant theologian. He studied Protestant theology, philosophy, and German studies in Berlin, Mainz, Tübingen, and Göttingen, receiving his doctorate in 1971 and his habilitation in 1975. From 1979 to 1985 he was professor of systematic theology at the University of Munich, followed by a professorship at the University of Mainz from 1985 to 1995. From 1995 until his retirement in 2009, Herms taught at the University of Tübingen, where he also served as director of the Institute for Ethics. He was dean of the Protestant Theological Faculty from 2000 to 2006.
