Wolfgang Schieder (born 1935) is a German historian. He was Professor of Modern and Contemporary History at the University of Cologne. His research focused on the history of European fascism, the social history of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, and modern Italian history. His publications include “Der italienische Faschismus. 1919–1945,” “Benito Mussolini,” and “Adolf Hitler – Politischer Zauberlehrling Mussolinis.” Schieder also served as chair of the Foundation of German Humanities Institutes Abroad and of a Max Planck Society commission on the history of the Kaiser Wilhelm Society under National Socialism.
