Abdelaziz Baraka Sakin, born in 1963 in Kassala, Sudan, is a Sudanese prose writer. He studied business administration at Assiut University in Egypt and initially worked as an English teacher. From 2000 to 2009, he worked for various international aid organizations, including on projects in Darfur. He began publishing literary texts in 2000. In 2009, he received Sudan’s Tayeb Salih Prize; his books were subsequently confiscated and banned in Sudan. His works include the novel *The Messiah of Darfur* (German edition, 2021). His books have been translated into numerous languages and received several awards. In 2023, Sakin was awarded France’s Ordre des Arts et des Lettres; in 2022–23, he was Graz’s city writer.
