Walter Zimmermann, born in 1949, is a German composer and professor emeritus at Berlin University of the Arts. His compositional work was influenced, among other things, by ancient philosophy, French structuralism, and the music of John Cage and Morton Feldman. His music is often characterized by a lyrical, at times ascetic restraint. In 2012, he edited John Cage’s “Empty Mind,” published by Suhrkamp.
