Ulrich Schlie

Ulrich Schlie (born 1965 in Nuremberg) is a historian and political scientist. He earned an M.A. and a doctorate in history. He served for more than 27 years in the German Foreign Service. From 2005 to 2014, he headed the Policy Planning Staff of the German Federal Ministry of Defence and served as its Political Director. Schlie was Henry Kissinger Professor of Security and Strategic Studies at the University of Bonn and held the Alfred Grosser Professorship at the Institut d’Études Politiques in Paris. He also held fellowships in Cambridge and at Harvard. He has published extensively on German and European history.
