Ruth Schweikert (1965–2023) was born in Lörrach, Germany, and grew up in Switzerland. She made her debut in 1994 with the story collection “Erdnüsse. Totschlagen.” Her subsequent works included the novels “Augen zu” (1998), “Ohio” (2005), and “Wie wir älter werden” (2015), as well as the literary investigation “Tage wie Hunde” (2019), which addressed her own experience with breast cancer. Her honors included the Bertelsmann Fellowship at the Ingeborg Bachmann Competition (1994), the Swiss Schiller Foundation Prize (1999), the City of Zurich’s Art Prize (2016), and the Solothurn Literature Prize (2016).
