Christoph Schlingensief (1960–2010) was a German film director, theatre and opera director, visual artist, and author. Born in Oberhausen, he began experimenting with short films at the age of twelve. He gained wider recognition through his Germany Trilogy (1989–1992). From 1993 onward, he worked in theatre, including at Berlin’s Volksbühne, where he became resident director in the 1990s. In 1998, he founded the political party Chance 2000 in connection with the German federal election. In 2004, he directed Parsifal at the Bayreuth Festival. Among his notable art projects was Mein Filz, mein Fett, mein Hase, presented at documenta X.
