Peter Esterhazy

Péter Esterházy (1950–2016) was a Hungarian writer. Born in Budapest, he studied mathematics there and worked as a freelance author from 1978. He established his reputation in Hungary with The Production Novel (1979) and An Introduction to Beautiful Literature (1986). He gained international recognition especially for Harmonia Caelestis (2000), a literary history of his family. In The Revised Edition (2002), he addressed his father’s activities as an informant. His work received, among other honors, the Hungarian Literary Prize and the Grinzane Cavour Prize; in 2004 he was awarded the Peace Prize of the German Book Trade.
