Necla Kelek, born in Istanbul in 1957, studied economics and sociology in Germany and received a doctorate in the humanities. She has published books on Islam, migration, and integration, including *Die fremde Braut*, *Die verlorenen Söhne*, *Bittersüße Heimat*, and *Himmelsreise*. Her works have been described as bestsellers and long-running sellers and contributed to the debate on integration and Islam in Germany. Kelek received, among other honors, the Geschwister Scholl Prize in 2005 and the Freedom Prize of the Friedrich Naumann Foundation in 2011.
