Michael Blume

Michael Blume (born 1976) is a German scholar of religion and political scientist. He earned a doctorate on religion and neuroscience (“neurotheology”) and taught media ethics at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, among other institutions. From 2003 onward, he worked at the Baden-Württemberg State Ministry, where he was responsible, among other things, for the state’s special program for particularly vulnerable women and children from northern Iraq. From 2018 to 2020, he served as the state government’s commissioner against antisemitism and headed a unit dealing with non-Christian religions, values, and minorities. His research has addressed religion and demography, the psychology of religion, the evolution of religiosity, and media and online culture. He received the Scilogs Prize in 2009 for his science blog and launched the podcast “Verschwörungsfragen” on antisemitism and conspiracy myths in 2020.
