Natan Sznaider

Natan Sznaider, born in Mannheim in 1954, is a sociologist. He moved to Israel in 1974 and studied sociology, psychology and philosophy in Tel Aviv. In 1992, he received his doctorate in sociology from Columbia University in New York. He taught, among other places, at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and at the Academic College of Tel Aviv, where he served as a professor of sociology. His research has focused on cultural sociology, political theory, globalization, cosmopolitanism, memory and the Shoah. His publications include Gesellschaften in Israel (2017), Neuer Antisemitismus? (2019, co-edited with Christian Heilbronn and Doron Rabinovici), Politik des Mitgefühls (2021) and Fluchtpunkte der Erinnerung (2022). He co-authored Israel. Eine Korrespondenz (2023) with Navid Kermani. In 2024, he received the Peace Prize of the Geschwister Korn-und-Gerstenmann Foundation.
