Jean Giraudoux

Jean Giraudoux (1882–1944) was a French writer, diplomat and civil servant. Born in Bellac, he died in Paris. After serving and receiving a decoration during the First World War, he held diplomatic and administrative positions. He initially wrote novels such as „Suzanne et le Pacifique“ (1921) and „Siegfried et le Limousin“ (1922), but later focused mainly on theatre. His collaboration with the actor and director Louis Jouvet shaped his career on the stage. His best-known plays include „Amphitryon 38“, „The Trojan War Will Not Take Place“, „Electra“, „Ondine“ and „The Madwoman of Chaillot“.
