Edmond Rostand

Edmond Rostand (1868–1918) was a French writer, playwright, and poet. He was born in Marseille on 1 April 1868 and died in Paris on 2 December 1918. After studying law, he turned to literature. He is best known for the verse drama „Cyrano de Bergerac“ (1897), one of the best-known works of French theatre. His other works include „Les Romanesques“ (1894), „L’Aiglon“ (1900), and „Chantecler“ (1910). Rostand was elected to the Académie française in 1901.
