Alfred de Musset (1810–1857) was a French Romantic writer, poet, and playwright. His major works include the plays “Lorenzaccio,” “Les Caprices de Marianne,” “Fantasio,” and “On ne badine pas avec l’amour,” as well as the autobiographical novel “La Confession d’un enfant du siècle.” He is also known for the poetic cycles “La Nuit de mai,” “La Nuit de décembre,” “La Nuit d’août,” and “La Nuit d’octobre.” Musset was awarded the Légion d’honneur in 1845 and elected to the Académie française in 1852.
