Gerhard Simon

Gerhard Simon (born 1937) is a German historian. He was a professor of East European history at the University of Cologne and served as a senior researcher at the Federal Institute for East European and International Studies in Cologne from 1967 to 2000. His research focused on nationalism and nations in the Soviet Union and on the dissolution of the Soviet Union. From 1991 onward, he published numerous works on modern Ukrainian history and contemporary history, including in the journal Osteuropa.
