Friedrich Dieckmann (born 1937 in Landsberg/Wart) is a German writer and publicist. After studying German literature, philosophy and physics in Leipzig, he worked as a dramaturge at the Berliner Ensemble from 1972 to 1976. His publications include books on Friedrich Schiller, Franz Schubert, Richard Wagner, Bertolt Brecht, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Johann Wolfgang Goethe, as well as essays on art and German contemporary history. His novel “Die Geschichte Don Giovannis” was published in 1991. Dieckmann received the Heinrich Mann Prize and the Johann Heinrich Merck Prize and was awarded an honorary doctorate by Humboldt University of Berlin. He was a member of several German academies, including the German Academy for Language and Literature.
