Hans Christoph Buch

Hans Christoph Buch, born in Wetzlar in 1944, is a German writer, essayist and reporter. He studied German and Slavic studies in Berlin and published his first literary work, »Unerhörte Begebenheiten«, in 1966. His work includes novels, stories, essays and reportage from war and crisis zones in Africa, Asia and Latin America. He is particularly known for a cycle of novels about Haiti, a subject linked to his family history: his grandfather settled there as a pharmacist. His books include »Die Hochzeit von Port-au-Prince«, »Reise um die Welt in acht Nächten«, »Baron Samstag oder das Leben nach dem Tod«, »Elf Arten, das Eis zu brechen« and »Stillleben mit Totenkopf«, as well as the essay collections »Boat People – Literatur als Geisterschiff« and »Tunnel über der Spree«.
