Diedrich Diederichsen, born in Hamburg in 1957, is a journalist, cultural theorist, author, and writer on popular culture. From 1979 to 1983, he worked as an editor at the music magazine Sounds, and from 1985 to 1990 he was editor-in-chief of Spex. He subsequently focused increasingly on cultural theory and academic work. From 1998 to 2006, he was a professor of aesthetic theory and cultural studies at the Merz Akademie in Stuttgart. In 2006, he became professor of theory, practice, and mediation of contemporary art at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna. His books include Sexbeat, Politische Korrekturen, and Über Popmusik. He also founded several bands in Hamburg’s music scene.
