Boris Groys (born in Berlin in 1947) is a German philosopher, art critic, and media theorist. He studied in Leningrad and left the Soviet Union in 1981. His work focuses on the Russian avant-garde, Soviet-era art and literature, Stalinist art, and post-Communist art. From 1994 onward, he taught philosophy, aesthetics, art studies, and media theory at the Karlsruhe University of Arts and Design. He also held teaching positions at New York University, including that of Global Distinguished Professor, and was a professor at the European Graduate School. His publications include Introduction to Antiphilosophy (2009).
