Daniela Kocmut, born in Maribor in 1980, grew up bilingually in Carinthia/Koroška from 1991. She studied German, Slovene and translation studies in Graz and Dublin and worked as a literary translator from Slovene, interpreter, language instructor and editor and staff member of the literary magazine Lichtungen. From 2004 onward, she published numerous translations, including works by Drago Jančar, Maruša Krese and Miha Mazzini. In 2020, she received the Glazerjeva listina of the City of Maribor for her translations of two of Jančar’s novels. Kocmut writes poetry in Slovene and German. Her first poetry collection, zwiesprachig (2013), received the Literature Prize of the Steiermärkische Sparkasse; in 2019, she won the Kärnten wortwörtlich poetry prize.
