Drago Jancar

Drago Jančar, born in 1948 in Maribor, is a Slovenian novelist, essayist, and playwright. In 1974, he was imprisoned for “hostile propaganda.” His novels, essays, and plays have been translated into numerous languages. His awards include the Kresnik Prize, the Jean Améry Prize, the Prix européen de littérature (2012), and the Austrian State Prize for European Literature (2020). His notable novels include Der Baum ohne Namen, Der Galeerensträfling, Die Nacht, als ich sie sah, Wenn die Liebe ruht, and Als die Welt entstand.
