Andreas Kossert (born 1970) studied history, Slavic studies and politics and holds a doctorate in history. He worked at the German Historical Institute in Warsaw and as a research associate at the German Federal Foundation for the Study of Forced Migration, Expulsion and Reconciliation. His books include *Kalte Heimat. Die Geschichte der deutschen Vertriebenen nach 1945*, *Ostpreußen. Geschichte einer historischen Landschaft* and *Flucht. Eine Menschheitsgeschichte*. He received the Georg Dehio Book Prize. *Flucht* won the 2020 NDR Kultur Non-Fiction Book Prize and the 2021 “Das politische Buch” Prize of the Friedrich Ebert Foundation, and was also nominated for the German Non-Fiction Book Prize.
