Herrad Schenk (born in Detmold in 1948) studied economics and social sciences in Cologne and York. From 1972 to 1980, she was a research assistant at the Institute of Social Psychology at the University of Cologne, where she earned her doctorate in 1975. From 1980 onward, she published numerous novels and nonfiction books, including *Am Ende*, *Das Haus, das Glück und der Tod*, *Wie in einem uferlosen Strom*, *In der Badewanne*, *Freie Liebe – Wilde Ehe* and *Wieviel Mutter braucht der Mensch?*. She also worked as a radio and television presenter and taught courses in autobiographical and creative writing.
