Tobias Winnerling

Tobias Winnerling studied history, philosophy and modern Japanese studies at the FernUniversität in Hagen and Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf. From 2008 onward, he worked as a research associate at the university’s Chair of Early Modern History and later served as a degree-program coordinator. His research has focused on the cultural, intellectual and scientific history of the early modern period, intercultural contacts, and the representation of history in digital games. His doctoral dissertation received the 2014 drupa Prize from the Faculty of Philosophy at Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf. His publications include “Vernunft und Imperium. Die Societas Jesu in Indien und Japan, 1542–1574” (2014).
